Napoli eked out another gritty win over Juventus during the weekend, once again overcoming their absences and exploiting the stellar form of their attackers. After a crisis, the Partenopei have rattled off a few impressive results.
According to TuttoSport (via Calciomercato), the two sides will tangle for a few different targets in January. Both are eyeing two of the brightest young defenders in Serie A, Lecce’s Tiago Gabriel and Sassuolo’s Tarik Muharemovic. In addition, they have laid eyes on Elche starlet Rodri Mendoza.
The two center-backs are in high demand, and it won’t be easy for Napoli and Juventus to convince their outfits to let them go midseason. The Old Lady has the inside track for the Neroverdi talent. He’s a youth product, and they still hold a 50 percent resale clause, which makes the negotiation a lot easier.
Instead, Mendoza is on the radar of a few top clubs amid a breakout season. He has been a regular and has scored once in 11 appearances in his maiden La Liga campaign. He has 64 appearances, 6 goals, and 3 assists to his name with Elche and has made 4 caps with Spain U-21.
The 3-4-3 devised by Antonio Conte due to their injuries in the midfield has worked so well that they should give some thought to using it even after the storm has passed, which won’t be soon. That would require another defender, as they don’t have much depth behind their three starters, who had never been healthy simultaneously before the ongoing run. The Bianconeri also have a tactical decision to make and some injury concerns to consider carefully in the back.
