Napoli Sporting Director Giovanni Manna has played down speculation linking star goalkeeper Alex Meret with a move to Inter. According to the Partenopei executive, the 27-year-old ‘wants to stay‘ at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona amid a rumored Nerazzurri interest.
Meret’s contract at Napoli runs out at the end of the season. Despite the club’s genuine effort to renew his deal, negotiations have reached an impasse. Always attentive to market opportunities, Inter president Beppe Marotta has added the ex-Udinese star to his list of targets.
Indeed, the reigning Serie A holders are in the market for a new goalkeeper. Inter signed Josep Martinez from Genoa in the summer as a long-term replacement for Yann Sommer. However, the Spaniard has been a fringe player this season, leading Marotta to explore other options.
Meanwhile, Napoli have no intention of parting ways with Meret.
Meret has been phenomenal for Napoli since joining the club from Udinese in 2018. He helped the club win the Scudetto in 2023 and the Coppa Italia title in 2019/20. Therefore, club bigwigs hold him in high regard.
Antonio Conte was lucky to have Meret in goal yesterday, as the Italian stopper’s incredible performance inspired Napoli to a hard-earned 2-1 league triumph at bottom-half Genoa.
