Napoli are pondering whether to bolster their defense either in January or next summer and have set sights on Stefan De Vrij, who might leave Inter on a free. The Partenopei have had to lean heavily on Amir Rrahmani and Alessandro Buongiorno so far. Rafa Marin hasn’t gotten any minute in Serie A, and Juan Jesus hasn’t been great in his few appearances.
According to Radio Kiss Kiss (via Tuttomercatoweb), the Azzurri are set to evaluate a pair of free agents in January: Simon Kjaer and Sergio Ramos. If they don’t suffer big injuries, they could go in that direction to add some experience for cheap.
In addition to De Vrij, who won’t transfer during the winter, Napoli are keeping tabs on two previous targets, Radu Dragusin and Jakub Kiwior, who aren’t playing much at Tottenham and Arsenal. They could pounce on them if there was an opportunity to nab them at a discounted price.
The contract of the Dutchman runs out in June. Inter are signaling that they could go younger at the position, keeping just one between him and Francesco Acerbi. The Azzurri have a sound relationship with his agent Federico Pastorello and could make the proposal quickly once the center-back enters the final six months of his deal.
They’ll surely need a new man next season if Marin isn’t up to snuff according to Antonio Conte, as they’ll have to rotate more. He’s more used to a three-man line but has plenty of experience in the other system too. A Bosman signing would allow them to use more resources in other roles when they might need a starter rather than just decent depth.
