Chelsea have been very active over the course of the summer transfer window, but they’re not done yet, with at least two more deals still in the pipeline.
They are also working on potential outgoings and could be handed the chance to offload one of their many outcasts.
According to journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Napoli are considering a move for Raheem Sterling. He had an unsuccessful loan spell at Arsenal last term, although injuries played a part.
The Serie A champions currently have their hands full negotiating a deal to sign Dan Ndoye from Bologna. If that falls through, they’ll turn their attention to Sterling.
Napoli have reportedly already held ‘intense discussions’ about a potential move for Sterling, with manager Antonio Conte giving the green light.
Chelsea are more than happy to cash in on Sterling this summer. The 30-year-old’s stock has plummeted dramatically over the past few years, and they are ready to negotiate a deal worth around £20 million.
The England international spent last season on loan at Arsenal, but it didn’t go according to plan.
He made 28 appearances across all competitions, returning a goal and five assists. He featured 17 times in the Premier League. But he started just seven times and returned a meagre two assists.
Arsenal were under no obligation to keep him permanently, and his place at Stamford Bridge is far from guaranteed.
Napoli have been shopping in the Premier League over the past few years.
They’ve already taken Kevin De Bruyne on a free transfer from Manchester City, and Conte has sanctioned another Premier League raid, with the Partenopei now throwing their hat in the ring for Sterling.
Sterling would be a decent addition for Napoli if they can agree a deal with Chelsea, but their focus is on Ndoye, although that deal is complicated.
The highly rated Bologna forward is valued at over €40m (£35m) including add-ons.
That makes Sterling a more cost-effective solution for the Italian club, and Conte is aware of his qualities after getting a first-hand view during his spell in the Premier League.
