Frank Anguissa had a decent start, looking good in the first three matches, then he missed two with a minor thigh injury, which he aggravated in a short stint off the bench in Napoli vs Fiorentina.

His renewal has been a hot topic for more than a year at this point, as the talks continue to lag. Director Giovanni Manna addressed it to DAZN before the last match (via Mediaset).

According to Il Mattino, Anguissa and his entourage were irked when Napoli picked up a two-year option to unilaterally renew his contract rather than negotiate a new deal and a consequent pay bump after their last Scudetto.

The negotiation is stalling completely at this stage. The midfielder is seeking a three-year contract and a conspicuous rise from his current €2.7M wages. He could easily double his salary if he headed to a Middle Eastern league. The parties are far apart on the numbers. The midfielder will have to prove he can stay healthy for the haggling to restart.

They have dragged their feet on this matter in the past, but their caution is justified now, as he hasn’t been himself in 2026 because of his injury woes. Considering their now-stingier policy on wages and his age, an accord would be more surprising than an exit, perhaps even in January if they could get a decent buck for him rather than risk losing him for nothing.
