Napoli are reportedly ready to test Lazio’s resolve by launching an onslaught for Mattia Zaccagni who could be their answer to replace Khvicha Kvaratskelia.
The Partenopei parted ways with the 2022/23 Serie A MVP who finalized his transfer to Paris Saint-Germain for €75 million. Therefore, the league leaders have been left with substantial money in the bank, and a major gap on the left wing. So according to Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Napoli have identified Zaccagni as one of their options to fill in Kvara’s shoes.
The newspaper claims that the southerners are ready to offer €25 million in addition to the services of Cyril Ngonge who would act as a direct replacement. The 24-year-old has been struggling to carve himself a proper role at Napoli, but would relish a reunion with Marco Baroni who coached him at Hellas Verona.
So despite mentioning the denials of Lazio sporting director Angelo Fabiani, the source feels club president Claudio Lotito might be tempted to sell the captain who will turn 30 at the end of the season and boasts the largest salary on the roster.
Zaccagni joined Lazio in the summer of 2021 after making his breakthrough at Verona. In the summer, he inherited the captaincy following Ciro Immobile’s departure in what was a controversial decision at the time. This season, the winger has contributed with 7 goals and five assists in 25 appearances across all competitions thus far.
