Napoli have joined Juventus in the race for Joshua Zirkzee as both clubs look for late deals to bolster their squads before the transfer window closes, Tuttomercatoweb reports.
Zirkzee is at Manchester United, but the Premier League team will allow him to leave the club during this window if they receive an offer that is good enough for them to accept.
Zirkzee is one of the finest attackers Juventus could sign because he knows Serie A very well and shone in the competition when he played for Bologna. The Old Lady wanted to sign him at the time, but they could not beat United to his signature, and he moved to England.
However, the Dutchman is now available for a move, and Juventus have identified him as a player to sign if they can offload Jonathan David. The faster they can make that happen, the better it will be for them, particularly now that Napoli have also entered the race.
The Partenopei have sold Romelu Lukaku, so there is space for them to sign another attacker. Zirkzee would reportedly be open to joining them if an agreement can be reached between Napoli and United.
His previous experience in Serie A makes him an attractive option for both clubs, while his ability to operate in attack could provide an important addition to either squad. Juventus, however, will be keen to avoid allowing Napoli to move ahead of them in the race.
The Bianconeri have already identified Zirkzee as a target, but their ability to make a move could depend on their outgoing business. Selling Jonathan David would create the space required for the Dutchman to arrive.
If Juventus can reach an agreement first, Zirkzee could make the move to Turin. The Bianconeri therefore have to act quickly if their interest is genuine and they want to prevent Napoli from securing his signature.
With Manchester United prepared to allow Zirkzee to leave for the right offer, the situation could develop quickly during the final stages of the window. Juventus will need to make progress on their own squad before they can complete a move, while Napoli have their own opportunity to take advantage of the situation.
The race for Zirkzee could therefore become an important late transfer battle between the two Serie A clubs.
