Antonio Conte and Napoli have turned things around since the coach went on an impromptu hiatus during the last international break, while the team wasn’t performing up to his lofty standards, and some locker room tension was simmering.
Instead, the boss has re-taken the reins afterward. The Partenopei dominated in the Supercoppa in Saudi Arabia a month later, breezing past Milan and Bologna. The manager has slightly changed his methods, and the players have completely bought in.
President Aurelio De Laurentiis never doubted Antonio Conte even in the eye of the storm, and quickly pointed out that Napoli hadn’t won two titles in short order since the Diego Armando Maradona era. According to La Repubblica, he intends to propose to the coach a two-year renewal, postponing the current 2027 expiration date.
The gaffer will think about it, as he has an excellent relationship with the governor. They have moved past previous arguments. The tactician hasn’t insisted on some things he doesn’t like, like the defects of the squad or the fact that their training center isn’t modern.
Winning cures everything, and they rarely had back-to-back performances as brilliant as those they produced in Riyadh. Still, it might not be long before the clouds return, as they have been pedestrian on the road and have overlooked the UEFA Champions League. Considering the way he has jumped from team to team, eventually wearing people down, it’d be uncharacteristic for the manager to tie himself down long-term. While it may not happen through a multi-year extension, a protracted sojourn can’t be ruled out, as only one other team and city would embrace him and revere him as much as currently.
