Fresh from lifting the Supercoppa Italiana, Napoli could soon be dealing with a transfer-related issue away from the pitch, as reports indicate that Lazio will be free to operate in the upcoming January market.

According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, via IlBianconero, the reigning Italian champions are under scrutiny from the independent commission that monitors the financial health of Serie A clubs.

While celebrations continue following their Supercoppa success, concerns have emerged regarding Napoli’s compliance with financial parameters.

Financial commission set to free Lazio from embargo

The commission met on Tuesday to review the accounts of professional clubs across multiple sports, including football and basketball.

Initial indications suggest that Lazio and Como have met the required thresholds and will be free to operate normally in the transfer market.

Lazio had faced an embargo on signings in the summer, which greatly derailed plans after Maurizio Sarri returned to the club.

Concern looms for Napoli

However, Napoli are among two clubs, alongside Pisa, that currently do not meet the criteria linked to the so-called “expanded labour cost to revenue” ratio.

The threshold is set at below 0.8, a limit the Partenopei are reported to have exceeded.

As a result, any club failing to meet the parameters would only be allowed to operate at net zero in the transfer market.

In practical terms, Napoli could still register new signings in January, but only if any arrivals are balanced by equivalent departures.

The more serious risks could arise in the summer.

From July 1, the indicator will become even more restrictive, dropping to 0.7. Failure to comply at that stage could lead to a full transfer ban, a scenario Napoli will be eager to avoid as they plan for the next phase of their project.
