Napoli saviour Lobotka: ‘I don’t know what I was doing up front’ | OneFootball

Stanislav Lobotka admitted he had strayed well out of position for the goal that settled Napoli’s win over Bologna, joking that finding himself in the box is not something he makes a habit of.

The Slovakia international spoke to Sky Sport Italia after decisive intervention at the Stadio Maradona, only his fourth goal for the club since arriving in 2020, a return of four in 244 appearances.

“I have not scored many goals for Napoli, it would be nice if the three points arrived with every goal,” Lobotka said, with quotes via TuttoMercatoWeb. “I am happy with this victory, we played well, as a team.”

Lobotka credits Favasuli for the assist in Napoli victory

The midfielder was quick to pass credit to the provider, whose delivery from wide picked him out.

“Obviously, I am really happy,” he said. “I don’t know what I was doing up there, I don’t usually do it, but I saw there was nobody around and Favasuli put in a lovely ball. I was also lucky, but that never hurts.”

The goal caps a strong afternoon for Lobotka, who has been one of the constants through Napoli’s change of direction this summer.

Massimiliano Allegri inherited a side built around control of the middle third under Antonio Conte, and while the new coach has adjusted the shape around him, the Slovakian’s role as the team’s metronome has not changed. Sunday’s contribution was simply an unusually advanced one.

For Bologna, Domenico Tedesco’s side will feel they deserved more from a game they competed in for long spells. Napoli, meanwhile, will hope the win is not overshadowed by Kevin De Bruyne’s late injury scare.
