Napoli Seeking a Precise Profile to Round Out Attack

Napoli exec Giovanni Manna stated that they could tweak their frontline in January, and a potential new signing will hinge on the future of Lorenzo Lucca. The striker hasn’t clicked with Antonio Conte and has been severely outplayed by Rasmus Hojlund. In addition, the official said they’d like more consistency out of Noa Lang.

According to Corriere dello Sport, buying out the former Udinese star early wouldn’t affect the parameter that caused their January limitations. On the other hand, it’d be a significant disbursement, €26M. More importantly, they need to find a team willing to invest that much for him, most likely with a similar formula. He has suitors, but the pieces need to fit financially.

Napoli could address their attack also because they have no certainties about when and how Romelu Lukaku will return. He was called up for the recent Supercoppa and has been training with the group, but he’ll likely need two or three weeks before he’s ready to play.

Manna shot down a possible swap between Lucca and Roma’s Artem Dovbyk. Lazio are eyeing the Italian marksman, but the Partenopei aren’t keen on Taty Castellanos. Instead, they are looking for an attacker like Giacomo Raspadori, who can play in multiple roles and provide a spark off the bench.

Our Take on Napoli

Lukaku has been out for so long that it’ll be tough to ask much from him for at least a couple of months. Antonio Conte has been remarkably versatile tactically, but settling on a scheme would better inform their strategy. Their current one won’t stick once Frank Anguissa is healthy, and a more crowded midfield would lessen the need for a new forward, unless Lucca really exits.
