Napoli Set to Make or Break with Headline Performer Amid Contract Extension Stalemate

Napoli chief Aurelio De Laurentiis has seemingly grown tired of being bullied by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s entourage in protracted extension talks. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, negotiations have reached a critical point, with the Partenopei bigwig issuing the Georgian’s camp an ultimatum.

Despite holding the 23-year-old in high esteem, Napoli could walk away from the negotiating table after their latest contract offer fell short of the player’s expectations. Indeed, Kvaratskhelia currently earns a meager €1.8 million net per season. Given his significance to the club, describing his wages as inadequate would be a massive understatement.

Therefore, Napoli were ready to offer their standout winger a substantial pay rise to tie him down to a new long-term deal. The current Serie A pacesetters have pitched Kvaratskhelia’s agent, Mamuka Jugeli, with a tangible proposal worth €6m per year for a five-year contract. However, that’s still below the player’s €8m request.

On top of a monstrous wage increase, the player’s camp insists on an €80m release clause to be included in the new deal. On the other hand, De Laurentiis wants to protect Napoli from foreign interest by taking the figure closer to the €120m mark. That’s approximately the same clause as Victor Osimhen’s contract.

As it turns out, it’s also the final offer. Kvaratskhelia can either accept it or wave goodbye to Napoli after only two years. There’s no shortage of suitors. Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are monitoring the situation with great attention, with the former already approaching the player’s representatives to gather information.
