Napoli striker Andrea Petagna says the players know last season wasn't good enough.
Failing to finish in the top four saw coach Rino Gattuso sacked and replaced by Luciano Spalletti.
"That Napoli vs. Verona is a sad memory, which we want to forget as soon as possible," Petegna told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.
“We apologise to fans and we are determined to move on."
On Spalletti he added: “I am learning a lot, I am proud to work with him.
“We can improve following his methods. I am ready to play as a support striker behind a centre forward, I can do it.
“I know I must work a lot. Because of my physical structure, I need time to get in shape," the former SPAL striker concluded.
