Napoli have threatened legal action against Schalke after Jesper Lindstrøm’s proposed transfer from the Serie A club collapsed.
The newly promoted Bundesliga club had been close to landing the Dane before talks broke down, with reports suggesting Schalke pulled out after Napoli sought late changes to the terms. The Italian side said in a statement that press coverage contained inaccuracies and set out its version of events.
The clubs exchanged letters on Sunday regarding the conditions of the move, and the method of payment was not in dispute.
On Monday afternoon, Schalke informed Napoli that certain clauses were unacceptable because of weekend injuries to Robin Gosens and Dejan Ljubicic. Napoli agreed to revised demands in an effort to complete the transfer, yet the move now appears off.
It is not yet clear whether Schalke will respond publicly.
