Jesper Lindstrøm was on the verge of completing his switch from SSC Napoli to FC Schalke 04 until the deal suddenly collapsed.

According to reports, Schalke ultimately called off the deal because the Series A side wanted to change the transfer terms at short notice.

However, the Italian giants are now vehemently denying the accusations via a statement posted on the club's social media accounts:

“SSC Napoli wishes to clarify the circumstances that led to the failure of footballer Jesper Lindstrøm's transfer to Schalke 04, as incorrect information was published in the press”.

There had been an exchange of letters between the clubs on Sunday regarding the transfer terms, in which “the payment arrangements were never in question.”

It wasn't until Monday afternoon that Schalke informed Napoli that certain clauses were "unacceptable," due to Robin Gosens and Dejan Ljubicic suffering injuries over the weekend.

Napoli had even agreed to Schalke's new demands to make the Lindstrøm transfer possible. However, this now appears to be definitively off the table.

Now, it remains to be seen whether Schalke will comment. Napoli, at least, is already threatening legal action at the end of their press release.
