Napoli ‘to appoint’ Massimiliano Allegri on two-year deal

Napoli are said to have chosen Massimiliano Allegri as their next head coach. La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that president Aurelio De Laurentiis has opted for the Italian.

Sky Sports adds that a two-year agreement was reached on Thursday, and that Allegri still has some details to resolve with AC Milan before confirmation, which is not expected to take long once those are settled.

The club’s search appears to be nearing its conclusion, with an outcome different to what had been expected earlier in the day.

Vincenzo Italiano, who officially left Bologna on Thursday, had been tipped to take the job, but Allegri is now the preferred choice to succeed Antonio Conte.

Official confirmation from the Campania club remains pending.
