The season-long injury-related Romelu Lukaku saga and the recent declarations by Kevin De Bruyne haven’t been well-received by Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis, who openly stated that he wouldn’t insist on keeping them if they asked out, Il Mattino reports (via SOSFanta).
However, they might not fetch satisfactory offers. Massimiliano Allegri and director Giovanni Manna are more willing to retain them, hoping they’ll bounce back, Corriere dello Sport informs.
Napoli will tackle the future of Lukaku and De Bruyne after the World Cup. For now, there’s nothing finalized one way or the other. The striker has recovered from his late-season physical problem and will be part of the rotation for Belgium. He’s played very little in 2025/2026 because of multiple issues.
According to Sky, Allegri has always been a fan of the forward and was in favor of bringing him to Juventus back in the day. The player recently stated that the past disagreements were water under the bridge following Antonio Conte’s exit. Instead, the playmaker sent signals in the opposite direction, but he’s not adamant about departing at this stage. If he stays, the new coach will anoint him as one of their reference points.
Had Conte continued with them, their future would have been sealed. Instead, the coaching change and a more lenient boss who loves to lean on proven champions wipe the slate clean. It’ll be interesting to see whether the call will come from above or if De Laurentiis will let Manna and Allegri decide. Their wages and personalities are too large for them to be pouty or not deployed consistently, and there are some question marks there.
