Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho is a wanted man, with Chelsea and Napoli harbouring plans to secure his signature this winter transfer window.
Days ago, it looked like Napoli were out of the race for the Man Utd man’s signature, but the Partenopei are reportedly back in the mix.
Napoli sold Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain and are in the market for a new winger to take the mantle from the Georgian. Their radar has pointed them in the direction of Man United.
However, the price tag has proven a sticking point, with the Italian side unwilling to offer more than €50 million. Man Utd want around £60 million for their academy graduate.
The presence of Chelsea also complicates matters. The Blues have more financial muscle and are always willing to flex it, especially when signing under-21 players. They have shelled out money recklessly and might be more willing to cough up Man Utd’s demands.
Also, United are interested in Chelsea attacker Christopher Nkunku, who is a better fit for Ruben Amorim’s football at Man Utd. Napoli must move quickly in this final week of the transfer window to snap up Garnacho’s signature and avoid losing out to the Blues.
Chelsea are still mulling over a move for Mathys Tel, and there is an opportunity for Napoli to swoop in and get a deal over the line.
Garnacho, who currently earns £50,000 a week (Spotrac), has continued featuring for Man United despite his future being shrouded in uncertainty. The Argentine has started their last five games and continues to show his talent, even though his decision-making in the final third could use plenty of polishing.
