Napoli have begun assessing options for next season’s head coach amid uncertainty over Antonio Conte’s future, and, according to Il Mattino, Maurizio Sarri and Roberto Mancini are being monitored as potential alternatives.
Conte has won a Scudetto and a Supercoppa Italiana in two years in Naples, yet his public interest in the Italy job has left his next step unclear.
Sarri, 67, is the most prominent contingency. He crafted one of Napoli’s most compelling sides from 2015 to 2018, and his Lazio recently underlined his coaching touch with a win at the Maradona.
Mancini, the former Italy manager, is currently in charge of Al-Sadd in Qatar and is on the verge of a league title. He has not hidden a desire to return to Italian football, with the national team a possibility, but is considered unlikely to be the FIGC’s first choice when the presidential election concludes in June. That could open a path to a club role, with Napoli’s interest still preliminary.
If Conte does depart, Napoli will need to act quickly. The coming weeks will provide greater clarity on his intentions and the wider managerial landscape.
