After more than a year out, Natascha Honegger made her competitive return for Palmeiras, starting in a 3-0 win over Juventude on Sunday 16 at the Arena Crefisa Barueri, in the penultimate round of the Campeonato Brasileiro Feminino.
According to Nosso Palestra, the comeback capped a recovery that began in May 2025 when the goalkeeper suffered a serious left knee injury against São Paulo in the Brasileiro. She tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments and damaged the meniscus, then underwent surgery the following month.
Over the following year she completed the programme set by Palmeiras’ medical and fitness staff. Progress was gradual, from individual work to full training, then inclusion in match warm-ups before she was cleared to play.
Honegger said the occasion was hard to put into words, recalling the operation, the difficult days and the uncertainties, and expressing gratitude to those who supported her. She added that before kick-off she placed the moment in God’s hands and finished the day feeling thankful.
She views the return as the start of a new phase, believing she comes back stronger and more mature, with renewed love for her profession.
At Palmeiras since 2024, Natascha Honegger previously played in Swiss football and for Paris FC in France. In Brazil she has represented Corinthians and Flamengo, and she was part of the Brazil women’s team that won the 2022 Copa América Feminina.
