Charlton Athletic are still in with a chance of winning automatic promotion to the Championship this season ahead of their clash with Wrexham on Saturday.

The Addicks produced a hugely impressive performance to beat promotion rivals Wycombe Wanderers 4-0 at Adams Park on Easter Monday, which now means that their visit to Wales this weekend could set up an entertaining final day of the season.

It was clear that Nathan Jones had not given up hope of achieving a top-two finish during his post-match interview following his side's convincing victory at Wycombe, as per the club's official X account.

"Easter can make or break," he said.

"Coincidentally, everyone is winning, so we have got to keep doing it.

"We would have liked other people to do us a little bit of a favour today, but no problem - we move on to the next."

The Welshman was, of course, talking about Blackpool, who have been difficult to beat at Bloomfield Road this season, as if they had managed to avoid defeat at home against Wrexham on Easter Monday, it would have done the Addicks a favour in the race for automatic promotion.

Charlton can still finish in the top two

It is still possible for Charlton to win automatic promotion from League One this season, but they will need to take six points from their remaining two games and hope that other teams can pick up results against Wycombe and Wrexham.

The Chairboys will face sixth-placed Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road and fifth-placed Stockport County at home in their final two games, so there is every chance they could drop points, especially after their latest result against Charlton.

Meanwhile, Wrexham will travel to Lincoln City on the final day of the season. The Imps are unbeaten in their last six home games, so it is not out of the question that they could cause problems for the Red Dragons.

Charlton host relegation-threatened Burton Albion at The Valley in their last league fixture of the season, and while the Brewers may be fighting for their lives, the Addicks will surely fancy their chances of taking maximum points, having not been beaten in any of their last 14 league games in SE7.

However, Nathan Jones' wish for other clubs to do Charlton a favour will only still be relevant if they win against Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground this Saturday.

Charlton must beat Wrexham this weekend

The Addicks' game against Wrexham will kick off at 5:30pm, meaning that Wycombe's result at Leyton Orient will have already been confirmed. Therefore, if the Chairboys have lost, Wrexham will know that a win is all that they need to secure automatic promotion.

If Leyton Orient get a result against Wycombe and the Addicks win in Wales, only one point will separate Jones' side from Wrexham in second going into the final day of the season.

It is set to be one of the most important games that Charlton have played in years, and while it is relatively unlikely, it is not out of the question that Leyton Orient, Stockport and Lincoln will do the Addicks a favour and make Nathan Jones' wish a reality between now and the end of the season.
