Nathan Ngoumou set to arrive, Nice hope for Elye Wahi return | OneFootball

Nice are rebuilding their attack, with Nathan Ngoumou set to join after Gauthier Hein. According to L'Équipe, the 26-year-old will have a medical on Monday and is due to arrive on a free, with Borussia Mönchengladbach owed 10% of any resale.

Ngoumou spent four seasons in Germany after coming through at Toulouse. He missed last season following an Achilles tendon rupture suffered in April 2025.

Up front remains a work in progress. Kevin Carlos has joined Cagliari on loan, Terem Moffi stays with the elite group, and centre-forward duties have fallen to Victor Orakpo or Zoumana Diallo, who have done well but may be short and are not certain to stay.

Nice explored free agents Frank Magri and Bamba Dieng, but those avenues faded. Magri chose Qatar, and INEOS closed the door on a move for Dieng.

The hope is still to bring back Elye Wahi, influential in survival and a run to the Coupe de France final while on loan last season. He scored nine in 19, including two in a 4-1 play-off second leg against Les Verts on 29 August. Wahi prioritises Nice, but Frankfurt do not plan to sell cheap and the closing hours could be decisive.

Beyond the attack, Nice want cover for Laurent Abergel after an ACL rupture. They are working on Axel Witsel, 37, a free agent after leaving Girona, with a one-year deal plus an option offered. The club value his leadership in midfield, and the decision rests with the player.
