National League Cup Preview: Under-21s head to Tamworth | OneFootball

Leeds United Under-21s return to National League Cup action on Tuesday evening, travelling to The Lamb Ground to face Tamworth in Group C.

The fixture follows an impressive victory for Scott Gardner’s side, who came out on top against League One outfit Barnsley in the opening EFL Trophy Group G fixture.

The Whites raced into a four-goal lead through a Callum Mills hat-trick and Josh McDonald’s header, before the hosts mounted a late comeback. Leeds showed great character to hold on for a 4-3 victory in front of nearly 400 travelling supporters.

In the National League Cup, United currently sit fifth in Group C, with three points from their opening fixture. Leeds secured a 3-2 victory over Solihull Moors in September, with Harvey Vincent equalising in the 19th minute before Freddie Lane struck twice to complete the comeback.

Tamworth sit fourth in the standings, level on points with the Whites but ahead on goal difference. The Lambs have also won one and lost one of their opening two fixtures, with their victory coming in a 5-3 win over Newcastle United Under-21s in the competition opener.

Last season, Leeds recorded victories over Gateshead and Scunthorpe United Under-21s, but their six-point tally was not enough to secure a place in the knockout stages.

Tamworth progressed to the semi-finals, where they were beaten 3-1 by West Ham United Under-21s. The Hammers went on to reach the final, eventually losing to Boreham Wood, who the Whites have faced this term.

In the Enterprise National League, Andy Peaks’ side have endured a mixed start to the campaign. The Lambs have recorded four wins, two draws and six defeats from their opening 12 matches, leaving them 18th in the table and two points clear of the relegation places.

Action from The Lamb Ground gets underway at 7.45pm.
