Nayef Aguerd set to join Real Sociedad on loan with option to buy | OneFootball

Nayef Aguerd, 30, is set to join Real Sociedad as their first signing for 2026-27, ending the search for a left-footed centre-back. His arrival is imminent.

According to AS, the Morocco international will join from Olympique de Marseille on a season-long loan, with Real Sociedad paying 4 million euros and an option to buy set at 11 million euros at the end of the deal.

La Real’s initial 2.5 million euros loan offer was rejected by Marseille, then the bid rose to 4 million euros to unlock the move. Aguerd viewed Real Sociedad as his first choice once the interest emerged.

The deal puts him ahead of other targets assessed, including Czech defender Ladislav Krejci of West Ham and Nathan Zezé of Nantes. Aguerd made 36 appearances for La Real in 2024-25 while on loan from an English club across league, cup and Europa League. He approved a return after rejoining Marseille’s pre-season on 29 July following adductor surgery.

Pellegrino Matarazzo will gain the experienced centre-back he wanted for his back line. The club expects to complete final paperwork over the weekend so Aguerd can travel to San Sebastián, undergo a medical and start work with the squad before the league campaign begins.
