Neal Maupay, whose permanent move to Olympique de Marseille was confirmed over the summer, is one of five players to be omitted from OM’s UEFA Champions League squad for the upcoming ‘League Phase’.
It has been made clear that Maupay does not feature in Roberto De Zerbi’s plans at Marseille, however, there has been a distinct lack of interest in the former Everton and Brighton and Hove Albion forward. As a result, he remains at the Vélodrome, albeit with limited game time opportunities. He won’t play a single minute in the Champions League ‘League Phase’ after his omission from the squad.
He is not the only professional player to miss out. Ulisses Garcia has not been included, nor have Pol Lirola, Amine Harit, or goalkeeper Ruben Blanco. All four have, like Maupay, been pushed towards the exit by Les Phocéens. Their minutes, should they get any, will be limited to domestic encounters.
