VI are reporting that NEC Nijmegen will not be selling Kodai Sano on the cheap. There are a number of clubs interested in the NEC midfiedler, including Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord alongside teams in the Bundesliga. However, anyone wanting to sign Sano will have to break the record incoming transfer fee that NEC received from Sunderland for Robin Roefs. As a result, NEC are looking for between €15 to €20m for Sano.
Roefs joined Sunderland for around €10.5m, a substantial fee for NEC. Roefs has become a firm fan favourite with Sunderland fans due to his quality performances in the Premier League. With NEC doing well in the Eredivisie, it is understandable that they do not want to lose Sano for any less than they saw Roefs leave for.
Sano joined NEC back in 2023 from Fagiano Okayama FC. He has gone on to play 77 games for the club, scoring 10 goals and providing seven assists. Sano has been a key player for NEC in each of the past three seasons and was recently capped by the Japanese senior national team.
