A Chelsea player has come out and given his honest take after his side lost 2-1 to Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.

We actually had a classic 3pm kick off in the Premier League on Saturday, which seems like a rarity these days. But Chelsea could not hand their supporters a classic game of football to watch at Stamford Bridge and couldn’t even give them a point to take away let alone three points.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea close in on new Front of Shirt Sponsor and the name that is expected to be announced on the shirts!!

There was one stat that’s been described as ’embarrassing’ that came out of the game to show that Chelsea were dominated in one area of the performance.

And striker Marc Guiu certainly did not take his chance to start the game up top for Chelsea and had some horrendous stats in the game really and barely even touched the ball.

And now, left back Marc Cucurella has come out and admitted that his team need to improve and need to manage the game much better after this defeat.

Cucurella reacts

“It’s a really tough one to take,” Cucurella told Chelsea’s website (cited by France 24). “We need to improve with these matches. I think we need to learn to manage the game better.

“We scored early, dominated at that stage but then we let the opponents back into it. We need to learn to kill games off when we are on top.

“We need to learn to be better against teams that come with a game-plan such as Sunderland where they stay very narrow and compact.”

Chelsea done in my a throw-in

For the second time this season Chelsea were undone by a long throw-in as Nordi Mukiele’s launch into the six-yard box created havoc and Isidor poked home the equaliser.

“We know that a lot of teams are trying to use long throws more and we need to manage them better,” Cucurella said.

“We worked on them yesterday because we knew Sunderland will look to use long throws and be direct from set-pieces.

“I think maybe we relaxed a little bit and they punished us. It’s no excuse. We need to learn from this and make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
