We asked our Swansea City fan pundit which player they should be swapping with Wycombe Wanderers to get a deal done for Joe Low
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...
Swansea City have been told to sell Kristian Pedersen to Wycombe Wanderers as part of a potential swap deal which would see Joe Low move in the opposite direction.
The Swans have been attempting to sign Low since the beginning of the transfer window, but they've had two bids, worth £500,000 and £600,000 rejected, as per Football Insider.
However, while a deal is proving difficult to complete, Wales Online have reported that Swansea are weighing up a potential swap with Wycombe to ensure they bring Low to the club one way or another this month.
Swansea don't have the biggest of squads, which could make any potential swap deal difficult, but our Swans fan pundit believes that one player in particular would be a perfect fit for the Chairboys.
We asked our Swansea City fan pundit, James Fleming, which player should be sold to Wycombe to get a deal for Low over the line, and he believes that Pedersen's EFL experience would make him an attractive signing for Wycombe.
Speaking to Football League World, James said: "I think the easy answer for the player we should be selling to Wycombe as well as whatever fee we decide to pay is probably Kristian Pedersen.
"As much as his wages might be an issue for teams in League One, he’s probably the most like-for-like option we have because we’re limited on centre-backs as it is, so we definitely won’t be swapping one.
“I think Pedersen makes the most sense. He’s been completely out of favour, and he hasn’t played in the Championship this season.
“He needs a fresh start away, he was okay at Sheffield Wednesday, and he’d be a good signing if the wages worked out okay.
“He’s got a lot of experience in the EFL and at the end of the day it would be a straight swap because he can play in that centre-back role if needs be. I think Pedersen and a fee would be enough to get the deal over the line.”
Pedersen is a full Denmark international who was playing in the Bundesliga and Europa Conference League just two seasons ago, so it remains to be seen how he'd feel about playing League One football.
He's also one of Swansea's highest earners, with Capology estimating that he earns a weekly wage of £18,000, and it's difficult to see how Wycombe could afford him unless he takes a significant wage cut, something he may not be willing to do.
Pedersen becomes a free agent in the summer and may wish to assess his options for a lucrative move abroad, and it's difficult to see him moving to Wycombe unless it's a short-term deal until the end of the season to put him in the shop window for a bigger move.
As James alluded to, Pedersen certainly needs a fresh start and things haven't gone to plan for him at Swansea for a variety of different reasons, but the 30-year-old may feel like he's above League One football at this stage of his career.
However, stranger things have happened, and if he's guaranteed regular football, and it's only a short-term deal until the end of the season, then the Danish international may fancy the challenge at Adams Park.
