Blackburn Rovers have been told to start Yuki Ohashi in place of Makhtar Gueye for their midweek fixture against West Brom.

Ohashi was used as a substitute in Rovers' win over Swansea City on Saturday, having been away with Japan in the international break, and he impressed in his 31-minute cameo.

The 28-year-old made an outstanding start to life at Ewood Park, but he's yet to score since the 14th September. However, despite going over a month without scoring, he's still the club's top goalscorer this season with five goals.

Ohasi has started just half of Blackburn's ten league games this season, and while being used from the bench against Swansea wasn't a surprise given the miles he traveled during the international break, the fixture on Wednesday against West Brom could provide the perfect chance to get back into the starting XI.

Yuki Ohashi tipped to start against West Brom on Wednesday

We asked our Blackburn Rovers fan pundit, Toby Wilding, what changes he'd like to see John Eustace make when they host West Brom on Wednesday, and Toby believes that Ohashi's substitute appearance could be enough to earn a recall to the starting XI.

Speaking to Football League World, Toby said: "I’d possibly say Yuki Ohashi in for Makhtar Gueye.

“I can perhaps understand why Ohashi didn’t start on Saturday against Swansea after a lot of travelling over the past few days having been away on international duty with Japan, but when he did come on for Gueye in the second half he certainly looked bright, put himself about and was well involved.

“He was getting into good areas so potentially I think that’s something that Rovers might need to bring in from the start on Wednesday night.

“Obviously, it’s a big game and a test of the early play-off credentials against West Brom and Ohashi has obviously been the main man up front this season for goals, so it probably does make sense to bring him in and look to get that from him again.

“Perhaps, in fairness, he needs a goal as well. It could do him some good.

"He’s only had those goals against Bristol City after his three in three at the start of the season, but he looked sharp from the bench on Saturday, so now might be an opportunity to get back into the goalscoring run, and it would be a decent match for him to do it in.”

Ohashi was an unknown quantity when he was signed from J-League side Sanfreece Hiroshima in the summer, and there may have been question marks over the move given the fact he's 28 and had never played outside Japan.

However, he proved a revelation in his early weeks after scoring three goals in three games, and then backing it up with two goals against Bristol City to take his tally to five goals in seven games.

He's had a quiet month or so after his blistering start to life in English football, and after a couple of weeks without a goal, he'll be looking to get back on track soon.

If his cameo against Swansea was anything to go by, Ohashi isn't too far away from getting back on the scoresheet, and a goal against high-flying West Brom would be a boost to his confidence.
