Negative record for high-flyer Kane? Bayern star threatens this series

Harry Kane continues to provide numerous highlights for FC Bayern this season, but the goalscorer could now be threatened with a rather undesirable record in the Champions League of all places.

The clash with Union Saint-Gilloise this Wednesday evening could be more than just another Champions League appearance for Harry Kane. The 32-year-old could go without a direct goal contribution in a top-flight match for the fourth time in a row – a streak that is not at all in keeping with his previous record at the German record champions. The Englishman scored his last goal in the 4-0 win over Brugge, when he scored the second goal himself.

In the following games against Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Sporting Lisbon, the attacker was in the starting eleven in each case, but failed to register either an assist or a goal of his own in the total of six goals scored by Munich. One reason for this: Kane often drops back into midfield to help shape the game, especially this season, which means he is sometimes missing in dangerous areas.

Kane is no stranger to such a slump, but it is still rare. The last time the centre-forward went goalless in three Champions League games in a row was in 2022, when he was still in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt. However, Spurs only scored two goals in that period. The current run at Bayern is more offensive, which makes the contrast even more striking.

Kane’s importance remains immense even without scoring points

FC Bayern themselves do not seem to be suffering from the drought of their star striker so far. The Munich side are clear favourites against Union Saint-Gilloise. Anything other than a commanding victory would be surprising, even if Kane were to come away empty-handed again.

Despite the minor hiccup in the Premier League, Kane is still one of the key players in Vincent Kompany’s team. The veteran is the Bundesliga’s all-time top scorer and his economic influence is also enormous: with almost 900,000 shirts sold in 2025, he is one of the top-selling professionals in the world.

FC Bayern are also in an excellent position in the current Champions League season. With 15 points from six games, the club are currently in third place with one game less than their rivals. A win against the Belgians would mean a leap back into second place ahead of Real Madrid. Whether Kane scores goals or provides assists again is probably not the top priority for either him or the club. He has already proven often enough that he has an immense influence on Munich’s game.
