Barnsley legend Neil Redfearn has delivered a message of support to the Tykes
Barnsley legend Neil Redfearn has sent the club a message of support after they were recently drawn to face Liverpool in the FA Cup.
The Tykes have performed well throughout the 2025/26 campaign thus far and find themselves on the cusp of the League One play-off places, despite having played fewer matches than every other side in the division.
Conor Hourihane’s outfit trail the top six by just three points, but have two/three matches in hand on a large majority of the teams ahead, which means that they could soon find themselves well in the automatic promotion chase.
This is an extremely exciting prospect for Barnsley, who have been outside of the Championship since 2022. Another source of positivity the Tykes were recently handed came in the form of being handed an FA Cup Third Round tie against the Premier League champions.

Naturally, this is a huge opportunity for everyone connected to Barnsley. The players, management and staff involved with matchday operations will get to go to work at Anfield, which could end up being a massive highlight in a number of their careers.
Furthermore, it gives the Tykes a huge chance to record a massive FA Cup giant-killing. Liverpool may be the Premier League champions, but they have struggled massively this season and could be there for the taking.
Following this positive news, former player Neil Redfearn issued a message of support to Barnsley via X.
“Go gerrum lads,” posted Redfearn, with a picture inserted of the Tykes celebrating their 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield during the 1997/98 Premier League season.
The midfielder was playing for the Yorkshire outfit that day and will be hoping they can repeat that feat in 2026.
Redfearn played over 300 times for Barnsley during his time at Oakwell and has been inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame for his excellent performances.

Along with their Premier League victory at Anfield, Barnsley also have fond memories at Liverpool’s home in the FA Cup.
In 2008, the Tykes travelled to Liverpool in the Fifth Round of the competition and managed to dispatch the home side, with a historic injury-time winner coming from Brian Howard.
Coming back from behind that day, Barnsley were once more a thorn in the Reds’ side.
That day is no doubt remembered extremely fondly on the terraces at Oakwell, and fans will already be dreaming of recording a repeat of that event in January 2026.
