FC Bayern is unbeaten in the Champions League and continues to march through Europe under Vincent Kompany. Now the first real endurance test awaits with Paris Saint-Germain – and the history clearly speaks in favour of Munich.

With three wins from three games, the German record champions are in second place in the Champions League table, with Paris Saint-Germain currently leading the league. This makes tonight’s match at the Parc des Princes in Paris a real top-of-the-table clash in the premier class.

So far, FCB have not let their colours slip against Pafos (5:1), Bruges (4:0) and reigning world champions Chelsea FC (3:1). Particularly impressive: Bayern not only won clearly, but also left little to be desired in terms of play.

Curious: Before the season, those responsible in Munich were very down on themselves. Honorary President Uli Hoeneß surprised everyone with a remarkable statement at the beginning of September: „I can only say that I’m looking forward to the coming season because we’re going into the Champions League season like Hoffenheim. And that is exactly our chance.“

He was referring to the fact that FC Bayern could no longer be considered top favourites in view of the enormous financial resources of other clubs – a role that is apparently being reinterpreted in Munich with fighting spirit and modesty.

CL history clearly speaks in favour of Bayern

But one thing is clear: if there is one opponent who regularly fails to beat Bayern in the Champions League, it is Paris Saint-Germain. The statistics speak for themselves: PSG have lost their last four head-to-head meetings with the German record champions – without scoring a single goal. The French top club has never experienced such a negative streak against any other team in its entire history in the top flight.

The 2020 final, when Kingsley Coman scored a header to give Bayern a 1-0 triumph over Paris and secure the sixth Champions League title in the club’s history, remains particularly memorable.

However, PSG won their most recent clash at the Club World Cup 2-0.

Kompany’s team full of confidence

The German record champions are optimistic about the reunion based on their current form. Under Vincent Kompany, FCB are still unbeaten in all competitions, have won 15 competitive matches in a row and look both defensively stable and mercilessly effective in attack.

Outsider or not – with this mixture of class, tactical discipline and historic self-confidence, FC Bayern will be travelling to Paris as what they almost always are in European football: a true giant.
