Inter Milan veteran striker Marko Arnautovic addressed the media after Austria’s UEFA Nations League draw against Slovenia last evening.

During a comprehensive interview with Mediaset via FCInterNews, the 35-year-old explained a lack of playing time at Giuseppe Meazza.

Marko Arnautovic, who returned to Inter in the summer of 2023, has mostly played as an understudy to Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram.

With Simone Inzaghi heavily relying on his heavy hitters, the ex-Bologna forward has had to settle for a second-string role.

However, Arnautovic remains committed to the Nerazzurri cause.

Indeed, he insists the reigning Scudetto holders can achieve UEFA Champions League glory this season.

“I believe we can do well because we know how strong we are, even though the other teams are not bad,” he said.

“If you look at the standings now, there are four teams with 25 points…

“Our goal is the Scudetto, but we want to go as far as possible in the Champions League. We are Inter, we want a lot.”

Arnautovic also opened up on a wasted penalty against Young Boys.

“For me, it was a disaster because I missed.

“Obviously, I had the great desire to score the 1-0; you don’t play much, then the coach gives you the opportunity, you want to do well…

“It was a penalty, and everyone thinks it’s easy, but even though we won later, the fault remained mine.

“I am very self-critical; I never criticize others; I always look at myself first.

“It was 2-3 difficult days for me, then I had an infection, and I couldn’t see anything from my left eye.

“It was tough. Now I am back, I feel good, and I hope to play for Inter: I will do everything possible to help the team and to move forward.”

Arnautovic has only made four Serie A appearances this season.

Though he has yet to find the net in the league, he refuses to let a rough start discourage him.

“Here, I come and play; at Inter, I play less because there are great strikers.

“It’s a difficult thing for me because, throughout my life, I’ve always played from the start,” Arnautovic admitted.

“But I understand the coach’s decisions. I do everything possible at Inter to help Lautaro, Thuram, Taremi, and Correa.

“We are five, we try to help each other. I want the best possible for Inter, which now is not the best possible for me.

But Inter is everything; it’s my team, and I do everything to help my team,” he added.

“The fans who grumble against me? Would I make the choice to return to Inter again? You look at those fans, but the real fans at Inter love me,” he emphasized.

“Even after I left, I still followed the team. I always say I didn’t win the Treble, but I am proud of that moment.

“There are fans who say I am old and always injured, but it’s not true. It’s not like I want to go on the pitch and get injured; it’s something that depends on my body.

“In my entire career, I have always played from the start; now I play the last minutes, and it’s something different for my body.

“But even if I play two minutes, I give my all.

“Would I take a penalty again? Certainly yes, even though Calhanoglu is the penalty taker.”
