Stefan de Vrij blasted his Inter Milan teammates for a lackluster performance in tonight’s UEFA Champions League win at Young Boys.

During his post-match interview with Sky Sport, as reported by FCInterNews, the Dutch defender expressed discontent with the Nerazzurri’s showing in Bern.

Simone Inzaghi reinstated De Vrij in the starting XI after losing Francesco Acerbi to injury against Roma last weekend.

While the veteran defender held up his end of the bargain, his attacking teammates’ display flattered to deceive.

Indeed, Inter offered too little in the final third at the Stadion Wankdorf.

While the Italian giants could seek excuses in a synthetic pitch, there’s no denying the traveling fans expected more.

However, taking home three points was the most important thing.

And Inzaghi’s charges got another European win over the line in the most dramatic fashion.

Marko Arnautovic failed to convert the penalty early in the second half.

Luckily for the Austria international, second-half substitute Marcus Thuram saved his skin with a stoppage-time winner.

Stefan de Vrij Slams Inter Milan Performance Vs Young Boys

De Vrij hailed Inter’s never-give-up mentality.

“The great thing about this match is that we believed until the end and managed to bring home the win,” the Dutchman said.

However, he’s aware the Nerazzurri didn’t meet expectations.

“We had other chances, but we can’t be satisfied with our performance, especially in the first half where we struggled,” he admitted.

Artificial turf did its part, hindering Inter’s momentum.

“he ball bounces differently compared to what we’re used to, and it moves faster. I think you could see during the game that it was a bit different,” De Vrij confirmed.

Worryingly for Inzaghi, Inter lost Carlos Augusto to injury at the start of the second half.

“Carlos got injured today, unfortunately. But we are heading into the Juventus match with a lot of desire and confidence to put in a great performance.

“Of course, we will play to win.”

Considered an early Scudetto six-pointer, the upcoming game between Inter and Juventus will grab headlines next weekend.

“It’s still early, but we are two teams that are up there, and it will be difficult like all the matches,” De Vrij said.
