Netherlands stage late comeback to deny Greece victory | OneFootball

The Netherlands recovered from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Greece in Thessaloniki, extending their unbeaten run in competitive matches to 19 games.

Greece started strongly and thought they had taken the lead through Christos Tzolis, but his effort was ruled out for offside before an injury forced the forward off.

The hosts eventually broke through in the 23rd minute. Fotis Ioannidis collected Georgios Masouras’ flick-on before advancing into the area and calmly finding the bottom corner.

Greece doubled their advantage just before the interval when Ioannidis turned provider, sending Masouras through to finish.

The Netherlands emerged with greater purpose after the break and reduced the deficit shortly before the hour mark. Virgil Van Dijk rose highest to head home from Joey Veerman’s corner.

The visitors continued to dominate and finally found their equaliser in the 89th minute. Tijjani Reijnders met Noa Lang’s delivery with a powerful volley to rescue a point.

The result leaves Greece top of Group A2, with the Netherlands also unbeaten.
