Corinthians idol and TV presenter Neto backed Memphis Depay over Neymar and urged the club to renew the Dutch forward’s contract.

According to Meu Timao, he said that, if Corinthians are organised, Memphis would pay for himself, deliver on the pitch and should be renewed, adding the team would not fight for the Libertadores without him.

He contrasted that view with Neymar’s stint at Santos, citing 11 goals and four assists in 28 games and no titles. Neto said he dislikes parts of Memphis’s deal, yet still calls him a star.

Memphis is contracted until 20 June 2026, so he can sign a pre-contract elsewhere and leave for free at the end. After the Supercopa do Brasil in early February, president Osmar Stabile said there were no renewal talks yet, though he intends to speak with the player.

Master sponsor Esportes da Sorte covers around 80% of the forward’s fixed wages. Bonuses and prizes are paid by the club and have already topped R$ 30 million.

The pair’s dispute escalated in 2025 when Memphis released the track São Paulo freestyle, referencing Neto after the presenter had questioned the No 10’s desire following setbacks against Barcelona of Ecuador and Huracán of Argentina.

Corinthians now turn to the Brasileirão, hosting Red Bull Bragantino at 20:30 on Thursday at Neo Química Arena in the third round.
