Manuel Neuer has to take another break at FC Bayern. The captain had only recently celebrated his comeback, but had to leave the pitch again with an injury. It is now becoming clear how long the goalkeeper could miss and when a return is realistic.
Manuel Neuer’s injury continues to concern those responsible at FC Bayern. The 39-year-old suffered a small muscle fibre tear in his left calf during the 4-1 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach. The club confirmed the diagnosis following an examination by the medical department and announced that the goalkeeper will be out for the time being.
Neuer was back in the starting eleven against Gladbach for the first time in around three weeks, but his return was brief: the veteran remained in the dressing room after the first half, with Jonas Urbig taking his place in the Bayern goal in the second half. Coach Vincent Kompany had already addressed the problems immediately after the game: „He felt something in his calf,“ explained the Belgian on the Sky microphone.

The club initially left it open as to exactly how long Neuer will be absent, with FC Bayern deliberately refraining from giving a concrete prognosis on the captain’s absence.
According to information from Sky, however, a clearer timetable is now emerging, meaning that the keeper will definitely miss the game at Atalanta Bergamo and the Bundesliga clash against Bayer Leverkusen. The other games against Atalanta in the second leg and against Union Berlin could also come too soon for the veteran.
The plan is apparently for Neuer to use the subsequent international break to fully recover. The goalkeeper could then make his comeback on 4 April at the latest in the Bundesliga match against SC Freiburg. Until then, the focus will once again be on Jonas Urbig, who had already replaced the captain against Mönchengladbach after the break.
