After missing both of Germany’s pre-World Cup friendlies with a calf injury, Manuel Neuer is set to return for his side’s World Cup opener against Curaçao on Sunday.
The 40-year-old made his return to team training on Monday in Winston-Salem, in front of 3,000 fans.
Neuer took part in the full session and made a strong impression, meaning that nothing should stand in his way of being involved against Curaçao on June 14 in Houston.
After Germany’s 2-1 friendly win over the USA on Saturday, Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann already expressed confidence that the 40-year-old would be fit for the Curaçao game.
He also insisted that it's not a problem that Neuer has had no match practice ahead of the opener.
“At his age, he doesn’t need time to settle in. He can handle pressure situations,” Nagelsmann said.
