Manuel Neuer remains undecided on whether to extend his contract with Bayern Munich beyond the summer of 2026.

The veteran goalkeeper, who will turn 40 in March, told Sky Germany there are no new developments regarding his future.

“So far, not yet. I want to take my time with it," Neuer said, adding:

“It’s really about the moment, about asking, okay, how is my body doing? What’s happening with my health? Does it make sense to continue? And I still need to delay this decision a little.”

Jonas Urbig currently looks like the most likely successor for Neuer once the veteran decides to hang up his boots. Speaking about the 22-year-old, Neuer said:

“It’s a lot of fun working together in our goalkeeper group. It’s not a problem for him that he can and will take over from me. He definitely has support from Sven (Ulreich, editor's note) and from me.

"We are a good team. We support each other every day, and we always try to push our limits so that the bar is raised a little higher. He has already shown in games that he can do it, and he will continue to do so.”

Urbig has featured three times for Bayern this season, including two appearances in the DFB-Pokal.

However, he will be on the bench for Wednesday’s cup game against Union Berlin, with Bayern coach Vincent Kompany having confirmed that Neuer will play against the capital club.
