Rangers fans have a lot of love for Nacho Novo for sure, the wee man being a major part of Rangers’ rich history. But Nacho Novo defends Chermiti for some reason.
He was a stalwart under Walter Smith and scored many a goal for the Famous, with his post-Rangers era including being a landlord remaining popular ditties within Ibrox culture.
But we can’t help feel he’s missed the mark a little with his comments on Rangers’ fail Youssef Chermiti.
The Catalonian said:
“Rangers spent that money because they think he’s going to become something, which he might. He just needs to keep his head down and keep working. Not try too hard or too much because that’s when the problems start coming when you try and try and everything is not going well. They are going to have to give him time. It’s not his fault. The fault has come from the top and the people who have decided to sign him for that sort of money.Because never in my career did I see a Rangers manager or director of football sign a player who has scored three goals in four years. And for that amount of money. So, for me, that is the problem. But I don’t know about the politics.”
He’s trying to be kind to Chermiti. But defending the boy who gave a bit of smack to fans was a touch tone deaf, for us.
Chermiti is one of the most unpopular players to ever don the jersey. Having being a lavish splurge by the despised Kevin Thelwell is why.
Many fans have furiously ranted about this signing, about Thelwell’s use of Rangers’ money in buying this fail.
And this fail gave the fans lip for daring to call out his rotten performances.
Defending him isn’t really ideal, because it’s not just the fee, it’s his own conduct and his displays.
He’s not justified a £1M fee never mind a £10M one.
3 goals in 3 years and just one at Ibrox shows how rank Chermiti actually is. Unfortunately he’s an immature boy as well.
There’s no defending him, or the fee spent, not that Novo did the latter.
In his case, he has at least pointed out the fee is not Chermiti’s fault. He also didn’t choose the price. Nacho Novo defends Chermiti in some senses.
But someone did, and it feels like Rangers have been rather scammed.
