Teenage international has swapped Old Trafford for the Emirates

Arsenal have announced the signing of winger James Scanlon from Manchester United.

The 19-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at League Two side Swindon Town, where he scored his first senior club goal and helped the Robins finish ninth.

Scanlon has already gained significant international experience, earning 24 senior caps for Gibraltar and featuring in World Cup qualifiers and Nations League matches.

“It’s a pleasure to be here, I can’t wait to get started,” Scanlon told the club’s official website. “I’ve been waiting to get this over the line, so I’m buzzing to be here.

The winger said Arsenal’s ambition and desire for continued improvement were key factors behind his decision to move to north London from Manchester.

“You can see that everyone here is hungrier for more, hungrier to get better and I think that’s something I believe I can add to and want to be a part of as well,” he said.

Scanlon, who has described himself as a creative player, will join Arsenal’s academy set-up as the club continue to strengthen their youth ranks.

“I like to score goals, assist, so hopefully I can excite players who watch me,” he added.

Scanlon is now looking forward to beginning his Arsenal career and continuing his development.

“I’m looking forward to playing, representing the badge, improving and hopefully showing people what I can do.”
