FC Bayern have suffered another setback ahead of their Bundesliga clash with Borussia Dortmund as Hiroki Ito suffered a thigh strain in training

As reported by tz, the Japanese player suffered the injury during the session on Thursday. Initially there was only talk of muscular problems, but now the diagnosis has been confirmed: a thigh strain. Ito could therefore be ruled out for the championship summit at Signal Iduna Park on Saturday (18:30, Sky)

Ito had ended training prematurely together with Minjae Kim. While Kim complained of knee problems, Ito now has a specific muscular problem

Personnel worries ahead of the summit

Just a few weeks ago, FC Bayern had an almost fully fit squad, but now there are more and more question marks ahead of the clash with their direct rivals

Michael Olise and Aleksandar Pavlovic were already missing from team training during the week. Both worked individually and should be fit in time through targeted load management. Pavlovic was recently back on the pitch with the team

There is also still a big question mark over Manuel Neuer. The 39-year-old suffered a fibre tear in his left calf in mid-February and is working intensively on his comeback. He trained with the team again on Thursday and even completed his first flying runs

After around 20 minutes, however, Neuer spoke to rehab coach Simon Martinello and goalkeeping coach Michael Rechner about complaints in his lower back, gluteal area and calf. The session was then ended – but, according to the club, as part of the planned workload management. A final decision on his participation is to be made at short notice

If Ito is indeed ruled out, coach Vincent Kompany will be without an alternative in defense, which he could have used after the injury to Alphonso Davies.
