Carlton Morris' injury against Watford doesn't seem as serious as first imagined to the relief of all Rams supporters
Carlton Morris’s injury against Watford couldn’t have come at a worse time for a Derby side relying heavily on his red-hot form - but his knock doesn't look as bad as first imagined.
Derby County’s weekend took an unexpected and unwelcome turn for the worse after star striker Carlton Morris picked up an injury during Saturday’s clash with Watford, cutting short his momentum in an excellent run of form.
The forward has been a driving force behind Derby’s strong spell in recent weeks, and provided key goals which led the Rams to five league wins in a row.
However, after being substituted in the 18th-minute at home to the Hornets last Saturday in replace ofAndreas Weimann, his early withdrawal immediately sparked concern among supporters who know just how important he has become to the team in his first few months in the East Midlands.
With the Rams waiting for further assessment, according to BBC Derby Sports journalist Dominic Dietrich, it's understood that the 29-year-old didn't pick up an ACL injury as first rumoured. Now, the focus shifts to just how big a blow this could be as a return date hasn't yet been provided.

Derby County were dealt a major blow not only when it comes to the result in their 3-2 defeat to Watford on Saturday, but also as the Rams' talisman was forced off early in the game with a worrying injury.
Morris went down in the first quater of the game after a collision which led to him clutching his knee and immediately looked in some discomfort, leaving Derby fans worried for the next hour of the game as well as beyond the full-time whistle until further news was provided.
Derby manager, John Eustace, came out in his post-match interview with a rather blunt response by saying: "He’s not in a good way and that’s disappointing; we’ll have to look at that. He’ll be in for a scan tomorrow. For him to come off the pitch, you know he’s struggling. It was a bit of a naughty tackle off the ball but it’s football and we’ve got to get on with it."
It’s obviously a big worry for the Rams as Morris has been the club's top goalscorer and was in the midst of enjoying a purple patch this season that underpinned a run of strong results and gave supporters hope, which has been an absent feeling around Pride Park for some time now.
The mix of power, poise and finishing are a few of the qualities that make the ex-Luton Town man so vital to this current Derby side, and as reflected in his stats so far, very few strikers in the division can match him. With it now being confirmed that the injury isn't as serious as expected, Derby fans will certainly be relieved, but for Eustace in the short-term, he will have to find a way to navigate without their main threat.

Derby County supporters didn’t hold back on X after Carlton Morris’s injury scare against Watford, with an initial wave of worry quickly shifting to relief once a more positive update emerged from Dominic Dietrich.
Despite the update not being concrete in terms of a timeframe, now knowing that it isn't an ACL injury which can usually take over six months until healed, will fill the Rams faithful with confidence that they won't have to wait that long until their 10-goal striker is back in action once again.
One Derby fan shared their sense of relief and commented on Dominic Dietrich's post by saying: "Sprained ankle = strap it up, 2 paracetamols, keep showing everyone the bruise, back out on the pitch."
Another Rams fan didn't hold back when it comes to how important Morris is to the club despite only arriving in the summer. He said: "Wow, sliding doors moment this. Thank god there’s someone watching over us."
Despite good news being issued, Derby fans still understand that Morris most likely won't make an immediate return to action with a trip to Swansea next up on the calendar. But the update has provided the fanbase with hope as another fan said: "Great news! Hopefully not out for too many weeks but we'll see. Also a nice pointer to block the ITK [In the know] garbage merchants who said it was an ACL."
Another fan gave a response as to who should fill the void left by Morris, with the natural replacement being Lars-Jorgen Salvesen, who hasn't had much opportunity to prove himself to Eustace since returning from injury himself.
His winner against Hull a few weeks ago could be enough to grant him his place leading the line. One fan commented: "Thank god for that, let’s hope it’s a month or so at the absolute most but until then, big Lars needs to start up top!"
