FC Barcelona have successfully completed the renewals of several important players since the start of this year. The Catalans have already officially announced the renewals of players like Ronald Araujo, Pedri, Gavi, and Pau Cubarsi, while they are currently also working on several more important operations.
However, one such operation that they have been working on for quite some time without any success so far is that of the renewal of the midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
The Blaugranes had already offered him a new contract some months ago, but later withdrew it after receiving no response from the Dutchman, and negotiations between the two parties have proved to be quite complicated in general so far.
However, things have improved in the last few months, and now, the two parties are looking to negotiate another contract at the end of the season, when there will only be one year on his current contract.
In fact, recent reports on the matter suggested that Deco had already met with the midfielder’s agent, Ali Dursun, on 19th February, and put on the table another renewal offer on Hansi Flick’s express request.
This new contract would extend Frenkie’s stay at Barcelona for another three years, while his salary will remain the same as he is getting now, i.e., between €18-19 million gross annually.
However, SPORT reports that there is a small nuance in this latter aspect, that of the Dutchman’s salary. The Blaugranes will meet the midfielder’s demands in regards to his salary but would link his wages to his performances.
Thus, his fixed wages would be less than what they are in his current contract. However, his variable wages, which would be subject to phenomena like the number of games played, titles won, etc., would be increased to ensure his overall expected salary remains similar to what he is getting under his current contract.
