At this moment, the USMNT has become truly popular in the US. It’s the truth: having the World Cup at home brought people who were outsiders of the sport closer to it.

For that reason, Pulisic's current form has come under heavy criticism. The national team's performances are already beginning to carry significant weight as attention shifts toward the 2030 World Cup, where everyone will expect a much better showing than this year's campaign.

Because of this, one of the players on Mauricio Pochettino’s roster has extended his loan and will remain with the New England Revolution through the end of the year.

New England Revolution retain Matt Turner

Matt Turner is currently under contract with Lyon in France, but after struggling for playing time and a regular role, he agreed to extend his loan with the New England Revolution for two more years, keeping him at the club through the end of the 2027 season.

“The New England Revolution extended the loan of American goalkeeper Matt Turner from French club Olympique Lyonnais (Lyon) through Dec. 31, 2026, with an option to extend the loan through Dec. 31, 2027, at which point the Revolution have a purchase option. Turner is a TAM-eligible player for New England.”

With this announcement, the New England Revolution secure their starting goalkeeper for the match against Turkey.

While statistics might suggest otherwise, Turner played a crucial role in helping the Revs achieve fourth place in the Eastern Conference before the World Cup break.

The 32-year-old has recorded 27 clean sheets and 29 wins in his 55 senior caps for the U.S. Men's National Team.

In his MLS career, Turner has participated in 54 wins in 126 starts across eight seasons with New England, ranking second in club history in goalkeeper starts, goals-against average, wins, saves, and save percentage.

Chris Tierney, Revolution General Manager and Chief Soccer Officer, said:

“Matt’s performances on the pitch here in MLS or on the world stage with the U.S. Men’s National Team speak for themselves. We firmly believe that Matt will continue to be the gold standard for MLS goalkeepers as he builds on his already impressive legacy with the Revolution.”

While also adding: “We are thrilled to reach an agreement with Lyon that will allow us to keep Matt Turner in New England Revolution colors for years to come.”

With the second stretch of the season starting this Thursday, July 16th, the New England Revolution need the solidity Turner proved at the start if they want to continue holding a playoff spot and be contenders for the MLS Cup.
