The New England Revolution have a new goalkeeper.
The Eastern Conference team signed free-agent goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik through the 2024 MLS season with an option for 2025. He joins immediately after the team confirmed Djordje Petrovic’s transfer to Premier League side Chelsea FC.
Major League Soccer’s Secondary Transfer Window closed on August 2, limiting the Revolution to target free agents only until the Roster Freeze Date on September 15.
"Tomas Vaclik brings vast experience to our goalkeeping corps and has been tested in several of Europe’s most competitive leagues,” Revolution technical director Curt Onalfo said in a release.
"His international resume and technical skillset will make Tomáš a valuable addition to our team. We look forward to his arrival and will integrate him into the team quickly as we compete to maintain our strong position in the conference and prepare for the postseason."
The team’s new goalkeeper last competed for second-tier English side Huddersfield Town, after stints with FC Basel, Sevilla, Olympiacos and Sparta Prague. He’s made over 500 professional appearances, including a 2020 UEFA Europa League championship and four Swiss Super League titles with FC Basel.
Vaclik arrives with immense pressure to keep the Revolution at the top, as the team sits in second on the Eastern Conference table with a record of 12W-4L-7D.
