Plans have been submitted to Lewes District Council for new gates and fencing at the Amex to address security threats.
According to TheArgus.co.uk, the scheme sets out security upgrades at Brighton and Hove Albion’s Falmer home, including two-metre fencing along part of the southern perimeter, about 160 metres on Village Way.
A planning statement says the aim is to secure the stadium during incidents requiring heightened security or in response to specific threats, with gates and pedestrian doors normally kept open unless circumstances demand closure.
The proposal includes four elements, two-metre fencing along the Village Way boundary between the existing hedge and trees, a 12-metre gate with a side pedestrian door at the main entrance, another 12-metre gate with a side pedestrian door at the Coach and Bus Park entrance, and a single pedestrian gate beside the Operational Broadcast Compound.
The fencing would be green and match the design already used around the stadium’s southern side and the University of Brighton campus.
It is planned to follow the line of current barriers between the hedge and tree line, so the scheme is designed to leave existing landscaping unchanged.
The statement adds that the project seeks to reduce the American Express stadium’s vulnerability.
