Lazio have been given a new headache as Boulaye Dia hasn’t been able to respond to Senegal’s call-up due to an injury.
Maurizio Sarri’s squad has been plagued by physical issues since the start of the season. Mattia Zaccagni, Nicolo Rovella, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Samuel Gigot, Matias Vecino, Adam Marusic and Luca Pellegrini are all unavailable at the moment due to various injuries, albeit some of them are pushing for a return against Atalanta after the international break.
Sadly for Dia, he has now joined the list, as an old injury has returned to haunt him. According to Il Messaggero, the 28-year-old’s right ankle flared up again. The player has been struggling with this particular problem since the second half of the previous campaign.
The versatile striker was one of five Lazio players called up for international duty, with the others being Elseid Hysaj (Albania), Gustav Isaksen (Denmark), Christos Mandas (Greece), and Nuno Tavares (Portugal). However, Dia will remain in Rome to undergo all necessary medical tests and detect the extent of his injury.
The former Salernitana striker began his campaign playing as Taty Castellanos’ understudy, before leading the line for Lazio in the Derby della Capitale against Roma. Unfortunately for the player, he squandered a golden opportunity in front of goal that cost Lazio dearly.
Nevertheless, the injury crisis saw him re-adapted in a second striker/attacking midfielder role, with Sarri switching to a 4-2-3-1 system. His only goal this season came in the 4-0 demolition of Hellas Verona after coming off the bench.
