Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed that summer signing Kennet Eichhorn will be sidelined after being diagnosed with a metabolic disorder that requires medical treatment.

The club has not provided a timeframe for the 17-year-old’s return, with Sky Germany describing his absence as being for an indefinite period.

During last week’s public training session, Eichhorn was limited to individual work on a separate pitch. Shortly afterwards, Bayer Leverkusen are reported to have withdrawn the youngster from first-team training altogether while he begins treatment.

Eichhorn enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Hertha BSC last season, making 17 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga before completing a €9 million move to Die Werkself on 1 July.
