Following their relegation to the Championship, the summer window was always going to be a hectic one for the Clarets, and their situation wasn't helped by the delayed process in naming Scott Parker's permanent successor.

Nicky Hayen was eventually appointed as the head coach, and he has had to oversee major changes to the squad over the past few months, and Burnley went into the final day of the window knowing incomings and outgoings were on the cards.

With Zian Flemming moving to Ipswich, Burnley had expected to be in the market for a new number nine, and whilst there is frustration that a deal for a new number nine didn't materialise, they did manage to sign Hatate.

The Japanese international enjoyed a hugely successful four-and-a-half year spell in Glasgow after arriving from Kawasaki Frontale under Ange Postecoglou, and the 28-year-old was arguably the standout performer in Scotland during his first few years at the club.

The previous two seasons were difficult for Hatate, and with the midfielder having fallen down the pecking order under Martin O'Neill, a summer move was always likely, and even though it was left until late in the window, he did secure a switch to Turf Moor.

It was revealed that Burnley paid an initial £6.5m for the player, and, in a fresh development, Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph has explained that the figure could eventually reach £9m.

He states that a 'large chunk' of the £2.5m in add-ons will be paid if the Clarets win promotion this season, which is obviously the aim for Hatate and his new club.

This is a decent outlay for Burnley, but Hatate is a player who could be a huge player for Hayen this season, and whilst they do look at least one striker short, the midfield was another area that they needed to address.

You only had to see the 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough on Wednesday night, with the boss making a change at half-time, to see that he wasn't happy with the balance in the middle of the park.

And, it has been an ongoing problem since the season started, so Hatate should help rectify that. If he can get back to his best, then he has the potential to be a real top performer in the Championship, as he is excellent with his pressing and intensity getting round the pitch, whilst he also contributes in the final third.

So, a fresh start could be just what Hatate needs to rediscover his top form, and he should arrive at Burnley with a point to prove.

The agreement with Celtic means Hatate is a significant signing for the club this summer, but all connected to the club will be hoping that the add-ons are triggered later this year, as that means he will have done his bit in helping Burnley back to the Premier League.
